San Lorenzo County Park, King City

Image
65 miles Just one quick stop in Soledad, as usual.  When we got here to King City we did a little downtown walk and determined there was only Mexican food here so went to freeway exit where there other options for lunch. We did stop into the Visitors Center and the new Downtown Plaza.  Very nice.  Boy, did we luck out!  We're one of 3 RV's in this massive park. It's pretty warm here!  Looking at the RV Journal, the last time we were here was in 2010.  Can't believe it's been that long.

83 miles Finally got on the road at 11am. Lots of fog initially.  Nice drive listening to The Moth Radio Hour so the miles went by fast.  Made our usual stop in Pescadero.  Stopped to watch a couple of people kite boarding.

82 miles Explored the Napa Valley today.  What a terrific spot, wineries by the hundreds along with grapevine everywhere.  Of all the small towns we were most impressed with Yountville.  When we got back to Napa, after a full circle around the Valley we stopped to shop and then have lunch before coming back to the campground.

68 miles Went first to Old Sacramento but couldn't find parking so decided to go to the Capitol.  It was closed so we just wandered around the Capitol Mall which was lovely and startling.  We decided to go back to Old Sacramento and got into a back parking lot.  We ended up going over a curb and that was the last straw.  We got out of there and looked for a lunch place before going back to the campsite.

Ko-Ket Resort, Walnut Grove

27 miles Lovely spot.  It's been here since 1948 so it's as old as we are! We'll be staying here tomorrow as well.  On Saturday drove around Walnut Grove and Locke but didn't stop anywhere and just came back to the campground.

Village West Marina & Resort, Stockton

104 miles 3 hrs of freeways with 3-6 lanes each direction.  What a mess!  Finally got here and had our lunch at Garlic Brothers which is across the channel from the campground. We're staying here for a couple of days.  Next morning we decided to explore downtown.  Strange.  Very few cars or pedestrians.  It felt odd so we decided to get away. This is a nice view of the river when we made a short stop to check out the marina.  Turns out we were here in April!  Then we decided to check out a campground in the Delta and after driving 20 minutes through horrible roads we were not impressed.  Back to the campground.

56 miles Late getting up again and discovered we had left the door open all night. Only the screen door was closed! 😁 Did a little exploring along the coast of Santa Cruz and ended up in Natural Bridges State Park. Then up highway 1 to here.  We've been here 4-5 times so nothing new or unexpected. Foggy and cool.  What a change!

Santa Cruz Harbor RV Park, Santa Cruz

44 miles Didn't get far today!  Of course, Norm slept for 11 hours so we didn't actually get moving until 10:30. 😂 After 40 years of driving through Gilroy we decided to check out the downtown.  Very cute and very nice.  Can't believe we've never gone downtown before. The old city hall now holds restaurants We decided to try the Santa Cruz harbor which we've tried twice before.  Luckily we got the last site.

276 miles Lots of driving today, not because we had to but  because we just felt like it.  Breakfast at Mother Hubbard's, which wasn't great then off to drive through Atascadero and see Norm's folks old house and property. Had to make the obligatory stop at Misson San Miguel Arcangel, hence the photo of the bell tower from the inside of the mission. As usual, we got off the highway at Arroyo Grande and through the backroads and Pismo Beach.  Made a stop in Soledad for coffee and pie. We decided we would go to Gilroy even though we wouldn't get there until late afternoon and it was quite a ride with lots of slowdowns.  Funny for 3 pm on a Sunday afternoon.
